It's been an up and down year in 2024 for sports technology. Fan focus led sports tech investment with 65% of the investment in 2024. While athlete focus investment was down 24% in 2024. M&A was a large part of the sports tech market in 2024 with $37B reached in dealflow. While the total sports tech VC funding in 2024 is projected to end the year at nearly $10B with USA, UK, Germany, and India leading the way.

2025 is poised to be a pivotal year for sports tech, with several key trends emerging. Artificial intelligence (AI) will play an increasingly crucial role in athlete performance, injury prevention, and fan engagement. Expect to see advancements in AI-powered coaching tools, personalized training programs, and predictive analytics for injury risk. Wearable technology will continue to evolve, offering more sophisticated data collection and real-time insights into athlete performance. Immersive technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) will enhance fan experiences, providing interactive content, personalized viewing options, and virtual stadium experiences. The convergence of sports, technology, and entertainment will further blur the lines between traditional sports and digital experiences, creating new opportunities for fan engagement and revenue generation.

Growl’s interactive bag lets you punch your boxing trainer in the face / Growl says it will upgrade the punching bag in 2025 with projectors, hit sensors, and motion tracking for real-time performance feedback.

Growl is a startup launching a wall-mounted fitness device that uses a combination of projectors and sensors to give you a life-size boxing coach to train with. Unlike similar interactive trainers such as the Lululemon Mirror or Tonal, the Growl encourages physical interactivity with its screen that doubles as a punching bag you can actually hit. However, just like those smart home workout machines, it’s pretty expensive, even with the hardware costs spread across a monthly subscription.
