How Athlos Was Created

Athlos a new track event out of New York launched on 9.26 spun out from an investment from Alexis Ohanian and 776 Capital. Initially the event was to be called the 776 invitational but was changed to Athlos which means contest or trial in Greek.

Ohanian said he examined the Diamond League structure. The Diamond League is the premier circuit for pro track and field athletes and began sending messages to discover the sports landscape. In that process he was connected to Olympic 200 meter champion Gabby Thomas who became a partner in creating Athlos NYC.
